Hello everyone, welcome to our new blog about social media and youth. Let’s talk about numbers concerning cyberbullying ! Here are the numbers about harassment on social media : - 47% of young people ( so nearly half of them) have received intimidating, threatening or odious messages online - This was exacerbated for girls, with - 46% of girls stating that social media had a negative impact on their selfesteem. - 59% of United States teenagers have been bullied and harassed online. - Instagram is the place were 42% of bullying happens the most, then Facebook is just behind instagram with 37% , then Snapchat with 31%, and finally Youtube , which is responsible for « only » 10% of the reported cyber bullying. - 71% of young generations say that they are and feel concerned about cyberbullying. - 40,6% of girls are much more likely to be victims of cyberbullying than boys (28,8%). We can also add that girls are more present on social media than boys, while boys prefer to play to videogames - The most shocking number is that 87% of teenagers have observed at least once in their life cyberbullying. - More than half of teenagers have witnessed cyberbullying on social media - Only 7% of United States parents care about cyberbullying, even though 33% of young people have been victims of cyberbullying. - 85% of parent of youth ages (13-17) report that their child has an account on a social media. Do you think that it is normal ? So there are the numbers concerning bullying on social media , young people and teenagers have to be careful, there is a trap near them, the social trap.
